Spray Foam Insulation
Spray foam insulation is two liquids that are heated to approx 125 degrees and pressurized to around 1200 psi. Then the mixture is applied out of a spray gun onto the surface that is to be insulated. Since it comes out as a liquid, it seals every small nook and cranny. When applied at the thickness of a credit card it the expands at a rate of 100 to 1, filling even irregular wall cavities completely so you end up with a wall cavity that is completely filled with a material that will never sag, settle or degrade and will totally stop the movement of outside air through it.
When a home is spray foam insulated, the foam, instead of being at the ceiling as with traditional fiberglass, is applied onto the bottom of the roof deck; which means the attic is “conditioned space”, since it is inside the thermal envelope. This puts the ductwork of your home in a much better environment, typically 50 degrees cooler in the summer.
The end result is a home that is quieter, has much better indoor air quality (less allergens, dust and pollution) and most importantly, uses 50% of your hard earned energy dollars for the life of the structure. If your average utility costs are $300.00 per month, picture saving $150.00 per month over 30 years. As energy cost rise, and they certainly will, these examples become even stronger.
